How do I run a resume writing and interview workshop?
I am conducting a workshop for 4 adult women tomorrow evening about writing resume's, what to do at an interview, etc. These women are stay-at-home mother's who are now looking to enter the work force. Any pointers on how to conduct a workshop for them? Only serious answers please!
Hmmm, Hopefully you already possess some experience &/or skills in this area so you will have some credability & knowledge when you present. I would suggest you spend some time reviewing sites on line like monster.com & careerbuilder.com as they both have lots of advice about effective resumes & interviewing do's & don'ts . There are at least a dozen sites out there to pick out little tidbits from. Your state is also likely to have a job search website, & my experience has been they are often the best of all the online sites. You might also consider asking the women ahead of time if they have any specific questions or concerns for you to address. This will give you something to start with, & also indicate how much they may already know. You don't want to be too basic if they have some good knowledge already, & conversely you don't want to be intimidating them w things that are too confusing. Good Luck !

Mother's Day Gift? Please help!?
I know this question has been asked a lot, but what is a wonderful last minute mother's day gift? I can spend about $100 but I would like it to be around $50. Me and my dad are taking her out to eat at Olive Garden (he's paying) but I want to give her a gift that she will remember. By the way, I have looked at most of the jewelry stores and cannot find anything that says "PICK ME!"
hmm... I will tell you what I gave my mother for holidays ...to be honest, i didn't give her anything reason is because if you really love your parents, you should treat them well, care and love them everyday nothing makes a mother or father more happier than expressing your love and care for them ...if you want to give her something stil though, then you can alwaise give them a hug because i can guarntee you that she will never forget that in my realm of philoshopy and life... money don't buy love so i don't usually spend money for anybody unless it's a life and death kinda of thing... what i do is just show them i care... their are many ways to show a person you care for them besides hugs... you can just tell your mother love her or just take her for a joy ride to the park or somewhere that day memories are more precious than jewels and golds trust me
Help on my debate topic on the women of the Renaissance?
So for my AP European History class I'm doing a debate on whether or not women had a Renaissance - and I'm con, saying that they did not have a Renaissance. Our focus is mostly going to be on education, because not many women were allowed to be educated, with the exception of the wealthy. We are also going to bring up pieces of artwork of women that show them to be very submissive when compared to men. Finally we are going to bring up sources such as Castiglione's Courtier that state the expected qualities of women, such as to take care of the house. I am looking for any pro arguments that I should watch out for and what I should counter with. I may also need more points to support that the women did not have a Renaissance. Any help is appreciated greatly. If you need some clarification on ANYTHING, don't hesitate to ask, please. Below I will give you an outline of our con arguments, so you can figure out if something's missing, etc. You can also skip it if you want.
AP Euro Con Notes
Chapter 11: The Renaissance Man and Woman
The Problem - pg. 2
Humanist described the ideal woman almost exactly like her medieval
counterpart than the “Renaissance man” was.
Renaissance men were educated to serve the city or the state, which no
humanist felt was a proper role for women.
Women didn’t participate in civil activities and government positions.
2. Visual - Workshop of Botticelli (ca 1444-1510), so-called
Simonetta - pg. 4
The woman in the picture portrays how women should act in this
society.
The men in the pictures are unrelaxed, stern, and facing forward. This
shows that men are supposed to be aggressive, proud, and dominant.
The woman in the picture has a relaxed face and is turned to the side.
This shows that women are supposed to be submissive, graceful, and
calm.
3. #5 Letter from Leonardo Bruni to Lady Baptista Malatesta, ca 1405
- pg. 6
Bruni believed that women should only study religion and morals,
poetry, and history. They shouldn’t study arithmetic, geometry,
astrology, and rhetoric. The women had limited education.
4. #7 The Courtier by Baldassare Castiglione, 1508-1516 - pg. 7-8
Castiglione thought that a woman’s ways, manners, words, gestures,
and bearing should be unlike a man. She should be soft, delicate,
tender, and sweet in all she does.
“And I do think that beauty is more necessary to her than to the
Courtier, for truly that woman lacks much who lacks beauty…”
Castiglione thought beauty was more important to a woman than being a
courtier.
“…she must not utter unseemly words or enter into any immodest and
unbridled familiarity…” In other words, he believed that women should
hold their emotions and opinions.
“And so, in her talk, her laughter, her play, her jesting, in short in
everything, she will be most graceful…using witticisms and
pleasantries that are becoming to her.”
5. Epilogue - pg. 11
The Renaissance ideals for women; physical beauty, morality,
femininity, and religion, the most important personal qualities a
woman can possess, are still with us today.
Note: All the writers in this packet were male. Could be the lack of
well-educated female writers.
Western Civilizations: The Renaissance (Timeline packet)
1. The City of Ladies by Christine de Pizan - pg. 4
She was born into a wealthy family and was unusually well educated.
“…because of the integrity to which women are inclined, it would not
be at all appropriate for them to go and appear so brazenly in court
like men…” She later goes on to say that it is not appropriate for
women to attend court because there are men to do so, but women are
fully capable of understanding law.
“If they understand it less it is because they do not go out and see
so many different places and things but stay home and mind their own
work.” This shows that women could be smarter than men if they are
given the experience to do so, but they often do not get the chance.
Society oppressed the ability of women to learn.
2. Visual - Giovanni Arnolfini and His Bride by Jan van Eyck - pg.
7-8
The picture shows the man dominating in his frontal pose while the
bride is deferentially turned toward him and looking down. “Thus this
painting is both a realistic depiction of two individuals with
distinct personalities (as revealed particularly in their faces).”
Not in God’s Image, “The Dispute about Women” (Vase packet)
1. Erasmus of Rotterdam - pg. 194
“The distaff and spindle are in truth the tools of all women…even
people of wealth and birth train their daughters to weave tapestries
or silken cloths…”
2. Agrippa d’Aubigne - pg. 198-199
Note: First paragraph is pro, use this to our advantage about how
education was limited and bad to all but the wealthy and royal.
She found that education was useless for women of the middle or
working class rank. “I have seen two bad effects issue from this:
look into how woman married back then. was it any different than the middle ages? look at the normal life pattern of a woman in the renaissance. was it any different than the middle ages? be sure to always tie everything back to that one question "was it any different than the middle ages?" if you don't the other team could easily say that while woman's problems didn't vanish the got better. you must prove that they didn't get better.
Should I still be friends with this girl?
She's a really nice girl and we're still friends. But for me, I'm not sure after what her dad did over the summer Because before, when I would go to her house, her dad would stare at me which was weird and her dad would always be following us when we're hanging out. My parents are telling me to stay away from her after what her dad did.:
According to police and court records, Arndt had sexual contact with the boy for nearly two years beginning in October 2007.
The sexual acts took place at a home, a workshop on Andrews Street and a storage facility on West Market Street, according to charging documents filed by West Manchester Township Detective David Bixler.
Through his attorney, Suzanne Smith, Arndt declined comment Monday.
The boy's mother went to police June 18 after discovering e-mails between Arndt and the boy that discussed masturbation, payments for sex, and nude and semi-nude women, according to court records. The e-mails spanned the period from August 2008 to January 2009.
When his mother confronted him, the boy said Arndt had been sexually abusing him for almost two years, police said. He also said Arndt sometimes paid him.
When questioned by police, the boy said Arndt threatened to tell his mother about e-mails and text messages the boy had sent to a young girl if he didn't comply, police said. The boy said he felt threatened and controlled by Arndt.
